The forthcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy is perhaps the federal government’s biggest, boldest effort ever to reimagine and strengthen the country’s cyber defenses. Some of the themes across the strategy include modernization, stronger public-private collaboration and a ‘whole-of-nation’ cybersecurity approach.

 

Priorities from the national plan will undoubtedly take some time to implement in state and local governments, and leaders from these agencies understandably have many questions about its impact on their organizations.

 

That’s why Government Technology and Fortinet have partnered to host a live webinar on August 11, 2023, at 11 AM PT/2 PM ET that will provide state and local government IT leaders with critical insights on what the national cybersecurity strategy means for their agency and guidance on preparing for the shift.

Jim Richberg’s role as a Fortinet CISO leverages his 30+ years’ experience driving innovation in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, and cyber strategy & policy. He is currently focused on cyber risk management, election security, and helping organizations maximize their IT efficiency and security post-COVID. Prior to joining Fortinet, Mr. Richberg served as the National Intelligence Manager for Cyber, the senior Federal Executive focused on cyber intelligence within the $80B+/100,000 employee US Intelligence Community (IC). He led cyber strategy for the 17 departments and agencies of the IC, set integrated priorities on cyber threats, and served as Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) on cyber issues. Mr. Richberg’s broad operational experience –including his 20 years at CIA-- gives him practical insight into difficult cyber challenges. He brings a strong focus on strategic problem solving and on framing complex issues in comprehensible terms that facilitate analysis and formulation of solutions.

Daniel J. Lohrmann is an internationally recognized cybersecurity leader, technologist, keynote speaker and author. He led Michigan government’s cybersecurity and technology infrastructure teams from May 2002 to August 2014, including as enterprise-wide chief security officer (CSO), chief technology officer (CTO) and chief information security officer (CISO). During his distinguished career, he has served both the public and private sectors in a variety of executive leadership capacities including advising senior leaders at the White House, National Governors Association (NGA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Throughout his career he has received numerous national awards including CSO of the Year, Public Official of the Year and Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader.

Deborah is an accomplished C-level influencer, with a broad range of experience in government, policy, cybersecurity, privacy and information technology. An experienced and highly respected thought leader who has held executive roles for over two decades. She recently retired from her position as New York state’s chief information security officer (CISO) after over 35 years of public service. In that role, as part of New York state’s information technology transformation and consolidation initiative, she helped redesign how the state protects its data. As state CISO, she directed the state’s comprehensive cybersecurity governance, risk management and compliance program, providing strategic leadership and vision, and assuring business-aligned, risk-based investments that maximized business opportunity and minimized cybersecurity risk. She also directed the NYS Cyber Command Center, hotline, procedures for reporting and response to cyberthreats, and digital forensics. She holds multiple industry certifications including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC); SANS Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership (GSTRT) Global Information Assurance Certification; and Project Management Institute certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
