Daniel Nuñez

Chief Information Security Officer at New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS)

Daniel Nuñez is a well accomplished Chief Information Security Officer who has served as the head of Information Security for several organizations. In his most recent role, he served as the CISO of New York City’s Department of Information Technology. Prior to that, he developed the Information Security Program (ISP) for the largest healthcare organization in New York City. In addition, he developed the ISP and SEC ARP compliant policies for Direct Edge – the world’s 3rd largest stock exchange. Prior to Direct Edge, Mr. Nuñez served as the Vice President of Information Security at Premiere Global Services (PGI), where he was responsible for overseeing a global Information Security Program in line with Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, SAS 70, HIPAA, and Safe Harbor. Mr. Nuñez has over 36 years of experience in a variety of Information Technology disciplines spanning a diverse array of industries including financial services, education, application services, government, telecommunications, and healthcare. He began his career as a network engineer and has held a number of leadership positions ranging from risk management to security consulting to systems integration and enterprise architecture. Daniel is an active member of the ISSA, ISACA, Computer Security Institute, and InfraGard security organizations. He currently holds the CISSP, CISM, CGEIT, Qualified PCI security professional, CEH, C|CISO, and ITIL foundation certifications. Dan delivers results with a pragmatic approach and evangelizes the good message of Information Security to his colleagues and friends whenever presented with the opportunity. He especially enjoys mentoring individuals who have an interest in the field.

As Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Idemia and Red River Technologies, he led organizational transformations to support modernizing development and cloud migration while integrating Dev/Sec/Ops.
