As the Senior Manager of Solutions Architecture at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jamie Butler leads a team of technical professionals supporting State and Local Government customers across the US. Prior to joining AWS, Jamie spent more than 15 years working in Higher Education, most recently as the Executive Director of Information Technology for the College of Engineering at UC Davis. His educational background includes a BS in Information Science and an MBA with a specialty in Technology Management. Additionally, Jamie is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds several AWS Certifications.

John Evans

Maryland Chief Information Security Officer, Department of Information Technology

John Evans is a new addition to the Department of IT (DoIT), serving as the Maryland Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). John started his career in the private industry, gaining experience in roles spanning from technical engineering to VP of Operations for a cybersecurity firm. In 2015, John joined the State of Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS), and during his tenure there he served as Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and CISO, overseeing the MD THINK initiative. Mr. Evans has earned multiple degrees and certificates at the undergraduate and graduate level at such prestigious universities as: California State University, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgetown University and the University of Maryland. Mr. Evans holds certifications from organizations including the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Project Management Institute (PMI) and Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), to name a few. Mr. Evans is also an adjunct professor in the cybersecurity graduate school program at UMUC.

Senior Strategy Leader, SLED, at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Faisal Hanafi is a member of the State and Local Government (SLG) leadership team with responsibility for overall strategy and strategic initiatives. In this role, Mr. Hanafi works closely with senior officials in the SLG space to better understand how AWS can address their business outcomes. Prior to joining AWS, Mr. Hanafi held the responsibility for Strategy and Operations for Citrix’s Worldwide Sales and Services Organization. Prior to his role at Citrix, Mr. Hanafi was responsible for Strategy and Operations across different organizations at Cisco including Cisco’s Worldwide Partner Organization, Cisco’s US and Global Public Sector business, and Cisco’s US and Canada business. In each of these roles, Mr. Hanafi was a key member of the leadership team and developed a strategic approach to ensure long-term sustainable growth and customer success.

Chief Innovation Officer for e.Republic

Dustin Haisler is the Chief Innovation Officer for e.Republic. As the finance director and later CIO for Manor, TX, a small city outside Austin, Haisler quickly built a track record and reputation as an early innovator in civic tech. A member of Code for America’s original steering committee, Haisler pioneered government use of commercial technologies not before used in the public sector – including Quick-Response (QR) barcodes, crowdsourcing and gamification. Notably, Haisler helped design and launch one of the first government open innovation programs in the United States in 2010, which received global recognition as a new model of citizen engagement and innovation. Among other first-in-nation innovations, Haisler architected a Crowdsourcing Master Land Use Plan (Harford County, MD) and patented a crowd-based business process (Crowd-as-a-Service). As Chief Innovation Officer, Haisler has a strategic role to help shape the company’s products, services, and future direction.
