While this infusion of technology has presented challenges such as managing logistics and funding, it also presents new opportunities for personalizing learning experiences and engaging students in different instructional models.

Speakers

 

Matt Federoff — Moderator

Senior Fellow, Center for Digital Government

Matt Federoff served as the Chief Information Officer for the Vail School District in Vail, Arizona for 22 years. He helped open 18 new schools, and was first in his state to provide comprehensive wifi, 1-1 student laptops, and all digital content for instruction. Before Vail, Matt taught high school science for eight years, where he was named an Apple Distinguished Educator in 1997. Matt was the 2005 Arizona Technology Director of the Year, a 2007 National School Board Association "20 to Watch”, a 2010 Tech & Learning “100 Future Technology Leaders to Watch”, 2013 Center for Digital Education “40 Top Innovators”, and in 2015 received ISTE’s “Making IT Happen” award. Matt served on Intel’s Education Board of Advisors from 2015-16. From 2018-19 Matt assisted the Tucson Police Department in digitizing their police academy curriculum, earning an “Award of Merit” in 2019. Retired in 2021 after 30 years in public education, Matt lives with his wife and children in the wilds of the Empire Mountains south of Vail.

 

Beth Rayl — Speaker

Chief Academic Officer, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools

Beth Rayl is the Chief Academic Officer for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS), where she oversees the Teaching and Learning Department. As a team, they focus on all aspects of curriculum, instruction, assessment, integrated technology, specialized services, State and Federal Programs, early childhood, and elementary, middle school, high school, and post-secondary programming for the 5th largest district in Michigan. Beth has also previously served as a superintendent of schools, an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, an elementary principal, a high school assistant principal, an adjunct university instructor, and a teacher in face-to-face and virtual environments.

 

Mark Salzer — Speaker

Director of Integrated Technology Systems, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools

Mark Salzer is the Director of Integrated Technology Systems for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS). Between 2013 and 2016 he helped oversee what was at the time Michigan’s largest 1:1 initiative. More recently, his team introduced a large scale VDI solution at the start of the 2020-2021 school year to support offsite learning. Before coming to Plymouth-Canton’s technology department nine years ago, Mark was the technology director in two other districts as well as a classroom teacher.

 

Tina M. Manglicmot, Ed.D — Speaker

Chief Academic Officer, Newport News Public Schools

Dr. Tina Manglicmot is the current Chief Academic Officer in Newport News Public Schools located in Virginia. She has 23 years of experience in education where she started off teaching high school biology and earth science. Prior to her current role, she has worked at the Virginia Department of Education as the Director of STEM and Innovation and has building level leadership and instructional technology experience. Her passion lies with innovative educational best practice and strives to ensure all students have access to high quality and equitable educational experiences reflective of the skills needed for success in life.

 

Chris Jenkins — Speaker

Director of Technology, Newport News Public Schools

Chris Jenkins currently serves as the Director of Technology for Newport News Public Schools. Chris has been with the district for 13 years, having started in 2008 as the Supervisor of Technical Support. In his current role, Chris oversees all of technology operations (staff student computers, networking, data security, student information systems, etc.) as well as the team of Instructional Technology Coaches.

 

Tara Nattrass, Ed.D. — Speaker

Senior Education Strategist, Dell Technologies

Tara, Senior Education Strategist for Dell Technologies, is an experienced educator focused on eliminating opportunity gaps and ensuring every student is engaged in meaningful learning experiences in healthy, safe, and supportive environments. As a district-level administrator, including most recently as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for Arlington Public Schools (VA), Tara collaborated with teams to implement systems and structures that lead to success for all students including strategic planning, curriculum development, social emotional resources, and professional learning frameworks. Throughout her career, Tara has served in multiple roles within schools and districts as well as teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Tara earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University and holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership as well as an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from St. Louis University.
