Behind all the technology deployed to help governments deliver better services, there are people —and those people can be manipulated and tricked by clever cybercriminals. Teaching employees how to avoid becoming an unwitting accomplice to sophisticated criminal attacks is vital to government cybersecurity.
Unfortunately, cybersecurity training usually looks something like this:
- Staff is assigned mandatory cybersecurity courses, such as Phishing and Security Awareness Training (PSAT), often as part of their busy onboarding weeks.
- Staff quickly breezes through the course and completes a rudimentary knowledge check.
- The same or similar course is completed by staff as often as necessary to ensure compliance standards are met.
Compliance and security are not the same thing, which is why this approach fails to promote meaningful behavioral change that drives risk reduction and can create a false sense of security.
On June 8, 2023, a panel of cybersecurity experts will weigh in on the best practices for building a cyber-aware workforce.
