Vice President, Center for Digital Government and Center for Digital Education

Brian Cohen is the Vice President of the Center for Digital Government and Center Digital Education. Prior to joining the Center, Brian served for 30 years in IT leadership roles with the City of New York and most recently with the City University of New York (CUNY). As the Vice-Chancellor and University CIO at CUNY, Brian directed the Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS), developed, and managed the enterprise IT vision, strategy and day-to-day technology operations of the University. His areas of focus included academic and business systems, cloud strategies, IT policies and procedures, Cybersecurity, project management, IT resiliency and disaster recovery, and network and telecommunications. During his time with the City of New York, Brian developed the City of New York’s E-Government strategy, implemented the City’s award-winning nyc.gov website, and managed the City’s effort to address the Y2K technology challenge.

Chief Privacy & Data Protection Officer for the University of Texas System

In her role as Chief Privacy and Data Protection Officer for the System, Cristina specializes in working with 13 institutions on matters specifically related to data and privacy protection laws including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act), and international regulations. Cristina serves as the HIPAA Privacy Officer for System Administration’s Office of Employee Benefits. The Office of Employee administers health benefits for over 200,000 UTS employees and their dependents.

Chief Information Officer, Oakland University

Bhavani has been serving as the Chief Information Officer for Oakland Univeristy since 2021 where she leads the University’s more than 100-member IT organization, which is responsible for providing a robust and secure computing environment, reliable infrastructure and viable enterprise applications. As CIO, Bhavani has worked to simplify, sustain, innovate and drive digital transformation with emphasis on addressing the top priorities of IT in Higher Education – information security, privacy, student centric learning and sustainable funding. Prior to joining Oakland University, Bahavani served as the Chief Information Officer at Ferris State University, and held numerous positions including Senior Director of Information Technology at Wayne State.
