Chief Risk Officer, Privacy and Security Office, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services

Pyreddy Reddy is the Chief Risk Officer for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Reddy is with the department for more than 26 years and he is the director for Privacy and Security Office. Mr. Reddy is responsible for privacy and security requirements for all 33 divisions within the department. He is responsible to Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS), Internal Revenue Services (IRS), Social Security administration (SSA) and HIPAA privacy and security regulatory requirements. Mr. Reddy was instrumental in implementing the HIPAA privacy and security rules for the department. He worked as IT auditor for the department, and he was the first IT auditor and first Privacy and Security officer for the department. He also worked as an information system auditor for New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Dow Jones before joining the department. He got his bachelor’s degree, Master’s in Business Administration and various security certifications.

Maria has over 20 years of experience in information technology and cybersecurity. She served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and retired as the cybersecurity chief. Maria recently departed the North Carolina Department of Information Technology where she held the position as the state’s first Chief Risk and Security Officer.

An experienced and highly respected thought leader who has held executive roles for over two decades. She recently retired from her position as New York state’s chief information security officer (CISO) after over 35 years of public service. In that role, as part of New York state’s information technology transformation and consolidation initiative, she helped redesign how the state protects its data.
