Ben is an accomplished cybersecurity executive and public-sector leader currently serving as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the South Carolina Department of Administration, where he oversees the statewide cybersecurity strategy and centralized security services supporting more than 80 South Carolina state government agencies. In this role, Ben is responsible for advancing enterprise security capabilities, risk management, governance, and incident response while aligning security outcomes with the broader mission of state government. Prior to his current role, Ben served as the Chief Information Security Officer for UNC Charlotte, one of the largest institutions in the University of North Carolina system. There, he led the university’s information security program, modernized security operations, strengthened governance and compliance practices, and partnered closely with academic, research, and IT leadership to protect a complex R1 higher-education research environment.

CIO, NYC Environmental Protection, Bureau of Business Information Technology

Michael Shum is the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Bureau of Business Information Technology (BIT) at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). As the CIO, Michael coordinates and implements DEP information technology strategic projects and helps define the mission, goals, and objectives of the BIT, leveraging the power of technology to improve service delivery, drive innovation, automate business processes, and reduce operating costs. Michael is responsible for the daily management and maintenance of the agency technology infrastructure, the development and implementation of major enterprise applications, establishing and overseeing technology policies and standards for DEP, providing technology services and support for the bureaus and business units within DEP, and the development of technology solutions to improve services for the agency and its 800,000+ customers. Additionally, Michael provides subject matter expertise on cybersecurity, advanced technologies, project management, organizational development, and business management processes.

Michael Gregg

Field CIO, Director of Strategy, Palo Alto

Mr. Gregg is a Field CIO, Director of Strategy. Prior to joining Palo Alto Networks, Mr. Gregg held CISO roles in public, private, and as an expat cyber leader. As the former CISO of North Dakota, he used a “Whole-of-State” approach to expand coverage from 20,000 to 200,000 endpoints, created the nation’s first Joint State SOC, and expanded services to tribal nations. As an expat CISO, Mr. Gregg led large scale change through mergers and acquisitions that grew global operations to more than 45 worldwide locations. He established a standardized cyber operating model globally and grew the security organization using an outsourced model from the ground up. Mr. Gregg has also worked in the U. S. energy sector focusing on IoT plant operations to obtain FERC regulatory authority to construction and operate an LNG export facility.

Daniel J. Lohrmann is an internationally recognized cybersecurity leader, technologist, keynote speaker and author. He led Michigan government’s cybersecurity and technology infrastructure teams from May 2002 to August 2014, including as enterprise-wide chief security officer (CSO), chief technology officer (CTO) and chief information security officer (CISO). During his distinguished career, he has served both the public and private sectors in a variety of executive leadership capacities including advising senior leaders at the White House, National Governors Association (NGA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Throughout his career he has received numerous national awards including CSO of the Year, Public Official of the Year and Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader.
