Karl is a high-growth serial entrepreneur who loves the one-two-punch of systemic change and recurring revenue. As the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of LearnPlatform, a for-benefit research organization, he leads a team of educators, researchers and technologists committed to expanding equitable access for all students to the tools and teaching that work best for them. Karl, his team and their proprietary technologies, including the most advanced education analytics solutions available, are used by schools, districts, state agencies and partners serving more than seven million students across the United States. The organization’s ground-breaking work in safely and reliably measuring the impact of education technology has created a market category and industry standard of education technology, referenced both in academia and the press, including The New York Times, Education Week, Hechinger Report, The 74 Million, MarketBrief, EdSurge and others. Originally an educator and administrator in the United States and abroad, LearnPlatform is Karl’s fourth successful education innovation organization. He is a go-to advisor for districts, states, companies, policy makers and foundations. Karl has lived, worked and studied in 12 countries, was a James M Johnston Scholar at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and completed graduate courses at University of California, Los Angeles’s Anderson Business School and California Institute of Technology executive extension. Karl has been named a BMW Herbert Quandt Transatlantic Fellow, North Carolina Teaching Fellow, Education Policy Fellow and serves on non-profit boards dedicated to equity, access and effective public policy. Karl, his wife and three daughters now live, work and play in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tom Ryan has recently retired from Santa Fe Public Schools, in New Mexico, as Chief Information and Strategy Officer. He has co-founded, K12 Strategic Technology Advisory Group, to assist district leaders deliver educational success with technology, which is led by experienced school technology leaders. He has expertise in strategic planning and leadership, designing digital learning environments, technology infrastructure reviews. Dr. Ryan has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. He has served as CIO in large and very large public-school districts and has 40+ years of experience and expertise in teaching, leadership, technology integration and blended/online learning program development. He is past chair in CoSN and works with the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) performing large school district reviews and helps coordinate annual CIO conferences. Dr. Ryan is a Senior Fellow for the Center of Digital Education and presents at several international and national conferences throughout the year.
